i’m into a wide variety of people. it really depends on the person, but i have a soft spot for glasses, beards, tattoos, sharp wit, a sense of adventure, a contagious laugh, some sort of fashion sense, a high level of intelligence with the desire to continue to learn, motivation, compassion, decent music tastes, and a nice hairdo never hurts either.

i think i just named some of my turn ons up there. i’m impressed more by people’s ability to be a decent human being more than anything. it’s easy to be a dick, it’s even easier to be a good person.

i’m turned off by people who are rude, thoughtless, lack compassion, ambition, drive, or the ability to live their lives. i don’t deal too well with egos, bad hygiene a lack of manners and respect, and someone who can’t tell me the last time they heard a piece of music or saw a movie that really moved them. there’s a few things i don’t care for physically, but they aren’t really that big of a deal most of the time.

dealbreakers - smoking (this is a thing i have a personal issue with because it’s taken my mom my entire life to quit and i know it will eventually cause her harm. you have the ability to quit.) lack of personality (if you’ve only got one layer to you, maybe you should get out more) people who can’t go a day without getting drunk or stoned, and if you’re racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, or just plain mean, i’ll probably kick you in the shin.

i’ll crush anyone who gets in my way.

Run.

No seriously run. Get off your ass, quit playing angry birds, stop posting so many stupid photos on instagram, and be somebody. There’s very little time to worry about the mistakes you’ll make, the ones you’ve made and the ones you’ll make in the future. At 18 you shouldn’t know what you want to be in life, sure you can have desires and aspirations but those things change. At almost 28, I’m still not entirely sure what I’m doing but I’ll tell you this much, I’m happy with what I’ve done. I wouldn’t change my experiences, mistakes, long sleepless nights, and good times for anything. Sure I could have done some things differently, but the way I did them made me who I am today.

Life will throw you a curveball when you least expect it so always be ready to deal with the good AND the bad. The bad times are the ones that will challenge you deep to your bones, and it will make you grow and change into the person you should be. Stretch out with your feelings. There’s no such thing as luck, don’t rely on it and certainly don’t blame it for something that teaches you a lesson.

Find what makes you happy and do that. Work hard enough to pay your bills and keep yourself afloat, but don’t work so hard that you can’t reap the benefits. Work should be about sustenance, not about digging your own grave. Travel, eat things you’ve never heard of or are scared to, buy yourself stupid things and lots of candy that your parents would never get you as a kid. Find what it is you want and save up for that thing, or that place, or that next step in learning.

It’s easy to lock yourself away inside you home, your mind, and your thoughts - but the best thing to do is to find the people who you connect with and treat them like your family. It’s not always about the people who you were born to be around, but the people you elect to surround yourself with. Make strong connections and love people for their faults, their growths, and their tough times as well as the time you spend happily together. Your friends are the ones who should make the same efforts you do to remain in contact, don’t build a bridge across by yourself, meet in the middle.

Lastly, breathe. It never hurts to just relax and take a deep breath. There is so much out in this world and the last thing you want to do is overexert yourself to try and do it all in one day. Take joy in each second because you’re not guaranteed every day that you have. Find out who you are. Be that person. If people don’t accept who you are, then they aren’t deserving of your presence. The people who are won’t ever second guess you for the things that make you happy.
