While they have been known to be a bit homophobic (and its been addressed by their bassist here) they are an extremely influential band - not just in hardcore but also bringing forth reggae and dub elements and the fact that they were four young african americans playing a predominately white style of music was a HUGE deal in 80’s. they preached a positive mental attitude (PMA) and looking inward to see who you are. That’s huge. Also, HR used to do backflips while they played. Legit.
