I think they are over-hyped and will eventually (much like the Beastie Boys) look back and say “oh shit, we were kind of assholes who said some fucked up stuff” and release better and mature stuff. But who knows, maybe their shock value can last a couple more years. I do think that Casey Veggies and Mellowhype had some pretty decent stuff on their respective releases, but Tyler the Creator is just a kid with a mic and he doesn’t deserve the hype he has. I know people like to compare them to a “punk” rap group for their shows and diy aesthetic, but they dont have the same sense of compassion or intelligence as most punk bands do. I could do without them.
Also David and I saw a kid in an odd future hoodie with his mom at Walgreens last week. He was like 12. C’mon mom, get in touch with your kid.
